Just fill your foaming soap dispenser 1/4 the way with castile soap, then fill the rest with water. VIOLA!!! Exciting foamy soap!! And castile soap costs about $6-7 a bottle!!! When you only use 3-4 tablespoons for each soap dispenser refill, this is a cheap and easy soap source that is natural and happy!! And foamy!!! The bad thing about this is that there aren't any pretty and affordable foamy soap dispensers out there. Sad:( My bathrooms are all brought to you by Wal-Mart or Meijer brand soap bottles.<br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgc7r5uuzrphiyKARuFzSVRmWLJcl63EqyQW3i4N47HNxJpgtDoU3oWI391Wg83R9lcPdcTKCrHzAPxoFGf116Gj3HbRrmRf3LoIUtB6THm1p2HXGl0xMsdSUtsr7kw_SOAmxtR_qRjooM/s1600/IMG_4307.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgc7r5uuzrphiyKARuFzSVRmWLJcl63EqyQW3i4N47HNxJpgtDoU3oWI391Wg83R9lcPdcTKCrHzAPxoFGf116Gj3HbRrmRf3LoIUtB6THm1p2HXGl0xMsdSUtsr7kw_SOAmxtR_qRjooM/s400/IMG_4307.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5613050821689653890" border="0" /></a>Why is that a kid would rather play with household objects, kitchen utensils, and random unedible things THAN THEIR TOYS???? Here's what I do when C gets bored with me and life:<br /><ol><li>run around and grab anything that is not tiny,<br /></li><li>throw it in a container,<br /></li><li>and set in front of baby.<br /></li></ol>In this situation, my baby recently loves opening drawers. So that's where his special toys are "hidden" instead of being in a container. Containers are sooooo for 8 month olds. C is 9 WHOLE MONTHS NOW. He's TOTALLY beyond containers.<br /><br />Other toys hidden in the open: our shoes (specifically the soles), onions, wine bottles in the now unused wine rack, the indoor compost trash can, the regular kitchen trash can, a giant seed we found in C's mouth that we have NOOOO idea where he got it, the remote control, drywall clumps (without trim covering it) (at floor level) that can be easily eaten. FUN!!!<br /><br />Also, <a href="http://www.blogger.com/www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6hpMftAIs0">Our Art Art Hour</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rural_Juror">The Rural Juror</a> are awesome things.Sarah A.T.J.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10312464551659815062noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1909831105638514047.post-36107175017441644312011-05-28T20:26:00.004-04:002011-05-28T21:14:42.963-04:00Link Love:)I've got a few tabs open in Chrome that I thought I would share!<br /><br /><br />I want to make one of <a href="http://backtoherroots.com/2011/02/18/fun-friday-fire-drill/">these</a>! Like I've mentioned before, we really don't know how to stop when it comes to working on our house. It's seriously going to take us YEARS to get this place looking like we want it. Yep, years.... Coming from someone who throws herself into a project 150% (possible?) until it is done, this is hard for me to accept. Take it slow? Take our time? REALLY??? Can't we just bury ourselves in house fixin' for 5 years and then bask in the glowing beauty for 30 years? WHY NOT???<br /><br />Oh, because there's a baby here now. And he's generally more demanding than the house. And he's pretty loud and insistent. And dang cute and appealing to play with:)<br /><br />And then there's that tension that creeps in if hubby and I don't relax, go on occasional date afternoons, or cuddle on the couch with a movie once in a while.<br /><br />And our extended family wants to see us once in a while;)<br /><br />And reading books, playing games, and watching high quality TV shows like 30 Rock, Community, and Modern Family are very important;)<br /><br />Yeah, lots of things are more important than perfecting our Estate THIS VERY MINUTE. We need to be slackers. Our vacation proved that. While vacationing, I was surfing the Interwebs one night and looked over to see my hubby playing a computer game. I haven't seen him doing that since last fall and that's pretty sad. J loves independent and well made games as much as I love reading books but neither of us have been "indulging" in those hobbies much lately.<br /><br />Long story short: New Schedule says:<br /><ol><li>We will NOT do housework in the evening (other than cooking and cleaning up dinner).<br /></li><li>We will only work on the house for 4-5 hours each weekend day. 8-10 hours the whole weekend sounds good!<br /></li><li>We'll loan our kid to grandparents every other weekend to go on a date.<br /></li><li>I will focus more on playing/teaching my kid when he's awake since that is MY JOB. Oddly, not painting/weeding/constantly working makes me feel guilty and I HATE that. It's like I don't value my child. I value my house more?</li><li>We're going to try to let things go, i.e. cleanliness standards. I'll have to work on this since J is already pretty good at overlooking messes;)</li></ol><br />So our goals for this weekend are:<br /><ol><li>Plant strawberry and raspberry plants. Somewhere. Probably involves prepping said area.<br /></li><li>Weed the front flowerbed! Oh it's soo big:( (That's what she said). <br /></li><li>Pressure wash the deck and gross exterior parts of the house.</li><li>Buy sealant and begin sealing the deck.<br /></li></ol>We can DOOOOOO it!!!Sarah A.T.J.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10312464551659815062noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1909831105638514047.post-9914767666150973742011-05-25T12:06:00.004-04:002011-05-25T12:25:14.979-04:00CSA Food for May 26Just a quick post about our current local food sources. Taking a hint from the SIL that I seemingly spend all my time <a href="http://sarahatjarvis.blogspot.com/2011/05/nc-monday.html">visiting</a> and <a href="http://micahandchristine.us/">reading</a>.<br /><br /><span style="font-family: georgia;font-size:100%;" >Here's the list of our <a href="http://burkefarm.wordpress.com/">CSA</a> food coming tomorrow. Apparently they switched their delivery date from Tuesdays to Thursdays. Okay. I will move my weekly grocery trip from Wednesday to Friday maybe? I plan a week's worth of meals and grocery shop after I know what we will be getting from the CSA. Oh, here's the CSA list:<br /><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: separate; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: 2; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; font-size: medium;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 16px;"><span class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1306339473_5" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: rgb(220, 238, 255); border-bottom-style: dotted; border-bottom-width: 2px; border-bottom-color: rgb(54, 99, 136); cursor: pointer; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; "><br /><br /></span><span class="Apple-converted-space"></span>Lettuce mix for salads and sandwiches<br />Snow peas- either in salads or <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/30/dining/301mrex.html?ref=dining">cooked</a><br />Pea shoots to put on sandwiches and in salads<br /><a href="http://www.foodmayhem.com/2009/06/tatsoi.html">Tatsoi</a> cooked with green garlic<br />Asparagus</span></span> drizzled with olive oil, salt, pepper then grilled<br /><br /><br />Also, I'm buying today's <a href="http://www.groupon.com/deals/englekings-country-beef-shop?utm_campaign=englekings-country-beef-shop&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&c=button&utm_content=indianapolis_inter&d=deal&division=indianapolis&s=featured_deal&date=20110525&user=21b04af7922e436ab009b14de84f41e4e227fff27c01f027d2cb240489672854">Groupon</a> for meat from <a href="http://www.englekingscountrybeefshop.com/">Engleking Country Beef Shop </a>for grilling burgers sometime soon. I'll get $40 worth of local happy meat for only $20. Nice!! This shop delivers to my town and is at my local farmer's market.<br /><br />Speaking of that, Saturday is farmer's market and maybe I can find some strawberries to make strawberry rhubarb crisp? Sure hope so!!</span>Sarah A.T.J.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10312464551659815062noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1909831105638514047.post-81458464932875293312011-05-24T21:34:00.005-04:002011-05-24T22:26:41.924-04:00NC Monday:(We're home....<br /><br />And I guess that's all well and good and nice and wonderful. But it's also kind of sad. As in no caps or exclamation marks. Probably because I'm pretty tired too. And tomorrow I have to go to the grocery store. After I plan meals for the week and make a grocery list. Then I'll unpack and cook dinner. How's that for reality? Suck.<br /><br />Today we went to <a href="http://www.ncbg.unc.edu/">North Carolina Botanical Garden</a> and we ended up leaving after less than 1 hour due to mosquitoes. Lots of them. But here is some of what we saw:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhAkXQkIuDIkA7T6USZNLfRGc1QO8MAs9LWqLxXuI8gDopfRcx7bBbSJ9wrXUdZKlOhzh8s4QyPoPm-8Yj6CODwRrTVQ9M8P4pdnWcp6YVKeFm_Zji5G64Mq0xiNe_dYqZbXiKM0w8lFA/s1600/5232011.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhAkXQkIuDIkA7T6USZNLfRGc1QO8MAs9LWqLxXuI8gDopfRcx7bBbSJ9wrXUdZKlOhzh8s4QyPoPm-8Yj6CODwRrTVQ9M8P4pdnWcp6YVKeFm_Zji5G64Mq0xiNe_dYqZbXiKM0w8lFA/s400/5232011.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610470772043419186" border="0" /></a>Pretty sure my brother took the lower right corner picture. My brother and sister in law have opened my eyes:)<br /><br /><br />Well tonight I had my very first deep fried Twinkie. And I have to say, it was the most amazing thing I've eaten in a while. Why have I been so stuck up about deep fried food?? How could I have been so ignorant all these years? It's a good thing I've got about 50 years left to enjoy catching up on Twinkies. And that's something I NEVER thought I would say:)<br /><br />Well, tomorrow we head back home. And back to normal food that I have to cook. Sad.<br /><br />In closing: here's a fuzzy picture of my boy being happyish and sweet on a walk:) C seems to have a little fever which could be caused by: his first tooth? (Acceptable) Or the beginning of a sickness? (NO!!!!) C has NEVER had a fever in his 9 month life so far.... It resulted in a fussy afternoon helping me realize I have had an easy 9 months. TOMORROW MY BABY WILL BE BACK TO NORMAL.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYdQdDTgzo24bnrir23QEB__W9K_-wGqSEbSmvbt-AmKnJDgmx5sKGhvNnT2rA32q2GNMoJLaPOXNLK9tI5aGAA6AYHWkBdNZEkUechap7CKTF7P-KE-IeRiL6kRapr_5z3q7IBlO8sEU/s1600/IMG_4214.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 310px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYdQdDTgzo24bnrir23QEB__W9K_-wGqSEbSmvbt-AmKnJDgmx5sKGhvNnT2rA32q2GNMoJLaPOXNLK9tI5aGAA6AYHWkBdNZEkUechap7CKTF7P-KE-IeRiL6kRapr_5z3q7IBlO8sEU/s400/IMG_4214.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610092189904114658" border="0" /></a>And yes, C is wearing the same clothes as yesterday. Early morning.<br /><br />We all woke up later, packed and cleaned, ate, packed and cleaned, drove to Wilmington, explored a bit, drove to Chapel Hill, explored a bit, drove home, unloaded, played, babies to sleep, relax:)<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4eSVDLcuVuM9okz84FpLKBf-vBldbHGGtlLqXnq_OKartsGLDoT38V04Ym3Rn89-HgIuYlefp2l6EX0otZEhNF-F9yV-qqWgLI3sdSyLMjA7hCEkckZ8QvAN-XGsL2yESYJ-q525aOEU/s1600/IMG_4203.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4eSVDLcuVuM9okz84FpLKBf-vBldbHGGtlLqXnq_OKartsGLDoT38V04Ym3Rn89-HgIuYlefp2l6EX0otZEhNF-F9yV-qqWgLI3sdSyLMjA7hCEkckZ8QvAN-XGsL2yESYJ-q525aOEU/s400/IMG_4203.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5609736308936763858" border="0" /></a>Me, J, and not-sooooo-tiny-anymore C.<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipGevafKV0si5jrucnTCizuTx7cb-bwma6biAixWtHR7Y6lAAM70OAIvVVkWj2CyRCKOWoowIWFGrxmqDjBmkutnSvGpug1rDAMwO7u3btIwDZ9FyBTjIjdUkm64TmZEy4x9M0r6icV6E/s1600/IMG_4195.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 276px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipGevafKV0si5jrucnTCizuTx7cb-bwma6biAixWtHR7Y6lAAM70OAIvVVkWj2CyRCKOWoowIWFGrxmqDjBmkutnSvGpug1rDAMwO7u3btIwDZ9FyBTjIjdUkm64TmZEy4x9M0r6icV6E/s400/IMG_4195.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5609736304696801410" border="0" /></a><a href="http://micahandchristine.us/">Christine, Micah, and Charlotte</a>. Since I tend to do this at home occasionally, I suppose it's really not a big deal.....<br /><br />Today was beach day! We managed to get to the beach (3 blocks from our rented house) at 9:30ish and were back home with fussy kids at 11:00. Shower, naps, lunch, more family arriving, then back to the beach around 2:00! Done swimming a couple hours later, showered, ordered seafood and Thai for dinner (from 2 different restaurants), watched Monsters Inc., said good byes and bedtime.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4w_6XX1S_2QR0yneOBiGL3vrwu0Q50i7HdgWvTb0jquco0RwrLKViapCTxq6oD3bE3iJChsd7nt-3xk-jjALHL_pWjxmeW6-DAqh8X3olsbNarPC3p9byq4FTTziJxO55k3oNrnwqJJ8/s1600/IMG_4055.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4w_6XX1S_2QR0yneOBiGL3vrwu0Q50i7HdgWvTb0jquco0RwrLKViapCTxq6oD3bE3iJChsd7nt-3xk-jjALHL_pWjxmeW6-DAqh8X3olsbNarPC3p9byq4FTTziJxO55k3oNrnwqJJ8/s400/IMG_4055.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5609345321937238658" border="0" /></a>C and Charlotte breakfasting on their favorite: Cheerios!! Yep. Wow:) During his 38.5 weeks inside he grew from a speck to 7 pounds 14 ounces. And so far during his 38.5 weeks outside he's grown from 7 pounds 14 ounces to 21 pounds. AMAZING!!!<br /><br />Moving on.<br /><br />Here's how we spent yesterday evening.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">GRILLING!!! AND EATING!!!!<br /><br /></span><div style="text-align: left;">I scored this free for us: local, grass fed, happy filet mignon!! And we grilled it last night, along with asparagus from our <a href="http://burkefarm.wordpress.com/">CSA</a> and sweet potatoes from <a href="http://www.greenbeandelivery.com/">Green B.E.A.N. Delivery</a>. We also had a yummy salad from our CSA. I can't tell you how much I've been looking forward to REAL food again. Real as in: fresh produce that has been grown responsibly and picked just days before I eat it. Free of chemicals, delicious and delightful! Plus we're supporting farmers we know personally!!<br />Oh so nice:)<br /><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span></div></div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjupBRnnsKh8a4qAeI4UvXxTQ5gj2Xcjvg2YIylxG7HDySgGIEHOUCsTiRQQdFMTJ_K65G7ww24VyZarly2rlMrOehbQa86wUnLBX0vO89mJi3YDMz2XD8fAbZzxX4F741PT8z5vFFg1-8/s1600/IMG_0967.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 299px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjupBRnnsKh8a4qAeI4UvXxTQ5gj2Xcjvg2YIylxG7HDySgGIEHOUCsTiRQQdFMTJ_K65G7ww24VyZarly2rlMrOehbQa86wUnLBX0vO89mJi3YDMz2XD8fAbZzxX4F741PT8z5vFFg1-8/s400/IMG_0967.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608062017774428882" border="0" /></a>Lucky for us our grill is next to one of the kitchen window. I guess it was so awful to look at that we never actually photographed it?!?!? Kinda sad because now you won't appreciate the true hideousness of it:(<br /><br />Let's just say one big corner was covered in very bizarre, oddly shaped, oddly painted shelving, complete with tiny drawers that would have held maybe 6 pairs of socks each. Yep. So: I GIVE YOU: THE GUEST ROOM.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2-5PKr79z0010sZpGZi2Cz1vpiirY1oFYpFbdspq_YxmMjwOSyBL_FU-cD-Kbyq974wuu0oXeUqmLWuZlJtyG0gYtsmVBQvy6jJO3_ygg1UMjulTrpnFogaPyZBpxXuSZw3Qe5Yohooc/s1600/IMG_3239.jpg"><br /></a><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">MARCH</span><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9SpZ21VCD6cvsTW-aNt22ScfuGPoksnllLWvLkcYtsgsFVDKTfHYyE0i7CMIQr_22PZsGF8UHyMzh08kDMnraJU3WIJrwJy-SdR209tw2G2q2NoZ4yjAekNXldbIuuPpuLGkTbxhQEzs/s1600/IMG_3109.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 266px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9SpZ21VCD6cvsTW-aNt22ScfuGPoksnllLWvLkcYtsgsFVDKTfHYyE0i7CMIQr_22PZsGF8UHyMzh08kDMnraJU3WIJrwJy-SdR209tw2G2q2NoZ4yjAekNXldbIuuPpuLGkTbxhQEzs/s400/IMG_3109.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5607120290950336834" border="0" /></a>My dad ripped down the shelving for us. And he was going to stay with us until he procured a job and an apartment. Thus began 2 weeks of WORK VERY HARD ALL THE TIME during which we worked evenings AND weekends. Got the room tip top, put 2 (3?) coats of drywall mud (thanks to my dad!) on the walls to patch up the shelving area. Sanded. Primed the walls. Painted. Painted another coat. Hired some guys to install carpet. Moved in furniture that my grandmother gave us when her condo sold. Moved up other furniture. Set up furniture. Hung curtains given by a friend. The other day I was driving through our town on a road I hadn't ever gone on and I saw another English Tudor. I wondered about it (as I do with all English Tudors now!) but didn't pay it much attention. IN FACT IT WAS BUILT BY THE SAME PEOPLE THAT BUILT OUR HOUSE!!!!! And they still live there!! Hmmmm.... Wonder why they abandoned my house? Was it the wasps? The millipedes? Spiders? Tiny ants? The multitude of work that comes with a 2.76 acre Estate such as ours?Sarah A.T.J.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10312464551659815062noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1909831105638514047.post-21994954172671474392011-05-13T14:16:00.004-04:002011-05-13T15:10:16.231-04:00House and DiapersFirst: I am happy to report that THIS:<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjylG6OjX50eGypmDsNCdNmzmAV6Ei6YATbX-eddwv3nX9uJlalc0GNKN8B9gte1s3Z3ea5krDXb6eREDfpeB611rSSyvfSgwnV7SVydUwgubmrv7RTwTVGClP5tzd677GOMkPLGjRBfxY/s1600/IMG_0935.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjylG6OjX50eGypmDsNCdNmzmAV6Ei6YATbX-eddwv3nX9uJlalc0GNKN8B9gte1s3Z3ea5krDXb6eREDfpeB611rSSyvfSgwnV7SVydUwgubmrv7RTwTVGClP5tzd677GOMkPLGjRBfxY/s400/IMG_0935.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5606266750343587986" border="0" /></a>Is finally happening to our pond. Our excavator filling it in in February but since he's fitting us in between jobs, we got pushed aside until now. Or maybe he returned to us because I started calling/texting him and bugging him too much;) Hopefully it will be finished on Monday? Seems too good so I'll tell myself that by Wednesday it will be done. Because then we must away to North Carolina (isn't that how they said it in all the Jane Austin books? I must away?) for a vacation.<br /><br /><br />And then THIS:<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_lUnyC7zJZ6XkR9wcSYS_i5b2SbjwzIwd_pXFINs-ERZoNQB0g8tXF8rc819mo8PAU30HLyU2RjA-0uJJljH9ySzLnOFmyms-Gz5uFYZ17ejHwG5NykAn6EerQ0HvfGpewaQNvbMRwPs/s1600/IMG_0934.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_lUnyC7zJZ6XkR9wcSYS_i5b2SbjwzIwd_pXFINs-ERZoNQB0g8tXF8rc819mo8PAU30HLyU2RjA-0uJJljH9ySzLnOFmyms-Gz5uFYZ17ejHwG5NykAn6EerQ0HvfGpewaQNvbMRwPs/s400/IMG_0934.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5606266742502442578" border="0" /></a>mound of rocks/concrete/stuff/unuseable water feature in my front yard will also be gone. Don't you? And isn't that what we ALL want for our homes???<br /><br />So, while I work on my disorganized photos (that's what the current naptime has been reserved for), here's some cloth diaper pictures and info from The Jarvis Estate.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">DIAPERS</span><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYXRuWEPXFVtei7pT19dj8VQk5ahc-QSnCHD4djrYKqSYX-jsbSHEFwX21RSavDumop6G9mrdxy8uuHrBDRyzlslOlK1ZItiw68By3Ofn5s0WR1_BRtw5YEuUp5lNkhj2cgwygMHGBi1w/s1600/IMG_0932.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYXRuWEPXFVtei7pT19dj8VQk5ahc-QSnCHD4djrYKqSYX-jsbSHEFwX21RSavDumop6G9mrdxy8uuHrBDRyzlslOlK1ZItiw68By3Ofn5s0WR1_BRtw5YEuUp5lNkhj2cgwygMHGBi1w/s400/IMG_0932.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5606266736091567154" border="0" /></a>C uses <a href="http://www.cottonbabies.com/index.php?cPath=98">Bum Genius 3.0</a> during the day. We have 12 of these diapers and all except 2 or 3 were bought used. We used to use <a href="http://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/diapers.htm">GMD prefolds</a> and <a href="http://www.cottonbabies.com/product_info.php?cPath=36&products_id=1610">Thirsties covers</a> during the day too but those are too cumbersome to take on and off when C uses the toilet. Alas. C NEVER leaks out of these!! His behind is kinda big in them though.... He mostly wears just a diaper and a shirt or onesie when we're at home. This way I can squeeze, kiss, and tickle his chunky legs all the time!!! And plop him on his toilet quicker:)<br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSi4meb-k8QjmK8RMD_RWmmYr35m24lhU61mA3jLO2fuRfUh2RpDCg-k6NcAW6_pC_S6GeoWtZdyGPs5fB95GM1UB5NrcasbfaLhGqqMcxrS75oCG8tyjUDEGamuVkkY8gUHBHuyCEWmM/s1600/IMG_0929.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSi4meb-k8QjmK8RMD_RWmmYr35m24lhU61mA3jLO2fuRfUh2RpDCg-k6NcAW6_pC_S6GeoWtZdyGPs5fB95GM1UB5NrcasbfaLhGqqMcxrS75oCG8tyjUDEGamuVkkY8gUHBHuyCEWmM/s400/IMG_0929.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5606266562237529746" border="0" /></a>Diapers go from butt to diaper pail in tiny laundry room. Then every 2 days I wash them: one cold wash with tiny bit of <a href="http://www.charliesoap.com/">Charlie's Soap</a> and 1/4 cup <a href="http://www.bi-o-kleen.com/general.htm">Bac-Out</a>, one hot wash with tiny bit of <a href="http://www.charliesoap.com/">Charlie's Soap</a>, and an extra rinse. PS- if C poops in his diaper (maybe 1 out of 7 days) we spray it with the diaper sprayer in the downstairs bathroom THEN stick it in the pail. Ah sweet breastmilk-only baby poop, how I miss you. Eating-solid-foods baby poop, GROSS, I'm glad you go in the toilet!!!<br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuOcnFskdGyGFwUe9QcEMxZD0BlNA2RLcjMKlmd5RDc6ikQ0tQ6mGriWYSmtBdq2r2OCsdHbwdfNSQmk3BCFRWZXhCWkGGuonue0ZtkhCROpFSg2fIrMo2Kpte7pF10xgvlTVWGor5sgA/s1600/IMG_0928.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuOcnFskdGyGFwUe9QcEMxZD0BlNA2RLcjMKlmd5RDc6ikQ0tQ6mGriWYSmtBdq2r2OCsdHbwdfNSQmk3BCFRWZXhCWkGGuonue0ZtkhCROpFSg2fIrMo2Kpte7pF10xgvlTVWGor5sgA/s400/IMG_0928.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5606266553911856050" border="0" /></a>The diaper covers go on my drying rack (AKA dining room chairs) to dry (no clothesline at the new house yet, too busy!!) and the liners and cloth wipes go in the dryer.<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAc7KRR-0o3s5ry1dwBxOpopsjm0Z8etURTcbQZPM8uC-jTTVwIxz-0K1lv1ZJemC7KlQg6_oEHqP57d7Pxb2Bzt6j5XoX5risstDlgETJt1pANxOxgUPXK9tPN0mOrTVhg9253XMrtzo/s1600/IMG_0930.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAc7KRR-0o3s5ry1dwBxOpopsjm0Z8etURTcbQZPM8uC-jTTVwIxz-0K1lv1ZJemC7KlQg6_oEHqP57d7Pxb2Bzt6j5XoX5risstDlgETJt1pANxOxgUPXK9tPN0mOrTVhg9253XMrtzo/s400/IMG_0930.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5606266566660609442" border="0" /></a>Finally all diapers, covers, liners, and wipes go in the laundry basket to sit in the living room for a couple of days. And if we're lucky, they get put in the diaper bin in the playroom<span style="text-decoration: underline;"></span>. But did I take a picture of that final step? NOOOO. Because I wanted to leave you hanging in suspense. I figured that out last week when 1/2 of them seemed to be missing. Dare I say I'll work on it tonight? Dare I dream of getting it done?? Nah!<br /><br />So I'm going to talk about my Organization and Lists:) Lovely things:)<br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXs1sO_zfQ64oJW0_51HFgBXwmnrzFJY2uK4gcLuP0eD6vBao95wBl7yQpn-8rioo7UL6xjKwuAXHgoiXBBSNRjCAuTDxnlYZRVxsVvsSLoGDusnS5FcgscsFFm5yLPgz8MPV9lV5ai5I/s1600/IMG_3492.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXs1sO_zfQ64oJW0_51HFgBXwmnrzFJY2uK4gcLuP0eD6vBao95wBl7yQpn-8rioo7UL6xjKwuAXHgoiXBBSNRjCAuTDxnlYZRVxsVvsSLoGDusnS5FcgscsFFm5yLPgz8MPV9lV5ai5I/s400/IMG_3492.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5605438319549349634" border="0" /></a><br />This is on a wall in my kitchen, near the stove. And here we've got the Organization System that occasionally fails. Or rather I do! PS- this pic is a couple weeks old, hence the April calendar page:)<br /><br />There's my bulletin board with my daily schedule that I attempt and have a 50-75% success rate. At least I have expectations! My Marsh Fresh idea card application was hanging there for about 3 months before I filled it out last week, used the card, forgot to turn in the application, then C promptly ate the paperwork. Oops.<br /><br />The dry erase board holds our house to-do list and other quick lists I make. Every few days we gravitate to this board for a impromptu family meeting of "HOW CAN WE EVER GET THIS ALL DONE????" followed by J being very nice to his frantic and stressed wife. The dry erase board isn't wonderfully pretty (neither is my panic over the to do list) but someday I'll tack quarter round molding around it to dress it up!<br /><br />Next we've got the calendar that I keep on paper at this phase of my life. Baby complicates life. Paper calendar seems easier. So I keep it on the wall. Easy as that. Now that I have SUPER PHONE, maybe I'll go back to electronic calendarizing? Whatever. I cook dinner 3 nights a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) and write on the calendar what I plan on cooking on those days. This simplifies my life a great deal and I JUST thought of doing it a couple months ago. Yep, took me 30 years to get this smart:) Other than that it hold my general tasks and plans, like any well behaved calendar would.<br /><br />Moving on: my time related goals lately have been blog inspired:<br /><ol><li>Narrow down our house to do lists. Focus on a few things. Make it manageable!- Thanks <a href="http://www.younghouselove.com/">Young House Love</a>:) PS- I love you!!<br /> </li><li>Focus on one thing at a time. Multitasking is all well and good but it is nice to JUST play with the baby or just clean or just surf the web. I remind myself about this goal all day and it makes my cluttered head calmer! Thanks <a href="http://catelinden.com/">Liberal Simplicity</a>!<br /> </li></ol> Now that I've gotten than out of the way, it's 9:45 and I need to go to bed. Yeah, that's what you do when you are me and you know your kid is going to wake up hungry in about 2-3 hours and you have the goods to satisfy that hunger.<br /><br />Night all!!Sarah A.T.J.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10312464551659815062noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1909831105638514047.post-1349686702605421572011-05-09T08:33:00.005-04:002011-05-09T11:28:06.731-04:00C UpdateWell, since I have WAY more pictures of my kid than I do the upstairs rooms of my house, this will have to do for today. If you hate babies, look away!!! If you love my house, come back another day!! Otherwise stay and check out my cute kid.<br /><br />I was going through photos last night and sort of lost track of time looking at C's newborn pics (taken by <a href="http://www.leahprofancik.com/">Leah Profancik Photography</a>). <span style="font-size:85%;">I think babies are like a black hole to their parents: all sense of time is lost playing with them and looking at them. Isn't that what happens in a black hole? I know normal time at least slows there.... My brilliant seester <a href="http://sievesand.blogspot.com/">Jo</a> would know since she is IU's Physics Club PRESIDENTE!!!</span><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim5eJMA9oaZZ_YriZD00KiJPFHq9pjqO8d6yBV2pyGxcZiXnkDJYV40G4famE747DmOERku7RCGFjUEz8ScS_eIPx6hfbmrSz9gMIrTtMJ7ESpcwzN16sgxdfVCqeg81juc78ybpB3O-s/s1600/Starred+Photos11.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 309px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim5eJMA9oaZZ_YriZD00KiJPFHq9pjqO8d6yBV2pyGxcZiXnkDJYV40G4famE747DmOERku7RCGFjUEz8ScS_eIPx6hfbmrSz9gMIrTtMJ7ESpcwzN16sgxdfVCqeg81juc78ybpB3O-s/s400/Starred+Photos11.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5604694480043196738" border="0" /></a>So tiny!! ANY food. ALL the time. And he's NEVER gotten full. We have to stop him from eating as much as we do because surely he doesn't REALLY want that much, right? We'll work on getting him to notice that "I'm full!" cue his stomach sends him. He'll spend 10-30 minutes just exploring a room while talking to himself. Of course this exploration involves me dashing to him and telling him curtains are not for climbing, adult books are not for sucking, plugs are not for fingers, fireplace shovels are not for mouths, Sadie's toys are not for ingestion, etc.... We're going with the "Keep small things put away but leave the house basically the same" approach to babyproofing. He'll play with all the other babies or kids but occasionally stop to study whoever is talking at the moment. Tipping his head and smiling follows, then a little confusion as to why Speaker didn't drop everything and coo at his adorable-ness. Poor eldest child.<br /><br /><a href="http://sarahatjarvis.blogspot.com/2011/03/c-sleep-update.html">Sleeping</a> is getting better thanks to asked for advice from my <a href="http://www.askdrsears.com/html/10/t130300.asp">Attachment Parenting</a> and <a href="http://www.llli.org/resources.html">La Leche League</a> groups:) C goes to bed in his crib around 8:00 PM, wakes every 30 minutes for about an hour (patting, walking, or more nursing get him back to sleep), then is conked out until midnight-ish. He'll wake then, nurse, get a diaper change (mainly to wake him up again!), nurse more, then sleep in our bed until 5:00ish. That's when he would love to wake up but it's still too early for him (AND ME) so I nurse-sleep for another (hopefully!) hour or two. Then he is a HAPPYMOMMYILOVETHEWORLD boy.<br /><br /><a href="http://sarahatjarvis.blogspot.com/2011/04/elimination-communication.html">EC</a> is also going well! During that crawling/standing beginning 3 weeks ago, he wanted NOTHING to do with the toilet, so we backed off. Sitting still for even 1 minute was way too much for his superdeveloping body and mind. Now he's back to letting me hold him over the toilet to poop and pee in the morning. Yay for not scraping/spraying off poopy cloth diapers! Noticing when he pees during wake time is more hit and miss bu catching after nap pees are easy.<br /><br />So that's C's life lately. I had to disagree with this assumption. The way I see it, those roles <span style="font-style: italic;">do</span> exist but in a healthy relationship they are not always attributed to the same person.<br /><br />I kinda see marriage (or really any relationship) like a carousel horse. So which horse did you RUUUUUUN!!! to go get when it was merry-go-round time? The JUMPER HORSES:):) Yeah, whenever I go to the carousel at our local children's museum, my heart still beats fast as I shove aside the tiny children to grab a jumping horse. And OH the delight of waving at the onlookers as your horse gallops up and down, around and around.<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf8YoK_RfGE5RPY2yUVDBJKF4CdObLtAUqXg7FC8_q-QK2xr8xXS2Ilyn68Q9yQpqmk6mgrCc3XGs71zO_IMljT3Bxs1I90B8yL5wMTQj49taJ6JMEvfNHZWEFO-nhw6iV9yNFvPmQgqU/s1600/IMG_0081.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf8YoK_RfGE5RPY2yUVDBJKF4CdObLtAUqXg7FC8_q-QK2xr8xXS2Ilyn68Q9yQpqmk6mgrCc3XGs71zO_IMljT3Bxs1I90B8yL5wMTQj49taJ6JMEvfNHZWEFO-nhw6iV9yNFvPmQgqU/s400/IMG_0081.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603344614746565186" border="0" /></a><br />Dude, I know I need to grow up, I know. That's why I had a kid!!!<br /><br />But back to marriage: it's like those horses!!! YES!!! When I am a crying wreck of a human, J is strong and gentle and caring. He lifts me back up to where I need and want to be. And in those times (which I'm pretty sure are fewer) that life becomes more than he can handle, I kindly and lovingly (I hope) do what I can to encourage and strengthen him. Then there are the rare times when we are both down in the dumps and overwhelmed and we must together wallow in the quicksands of MISERY. But then we grab the vine of hope and wrench oursleves free from the clutches of those grains of despair.<br /><br />Did you like that? SO WISE!!!!<br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb8_pXFNRL3B2dnVg1lymBOCxlTGdy8Y3tpUvheBnNLyrCqukoucWSr-x9cvJr6IRafUJIliNGyvNx0yIwcS5HG9jrIsb5wZaSuuOcOSslP7LH56wdz5MlgRnIULsOhbcvCfco8YLYcFY/s1600/DSC02260.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb8_pXFNRL3B2dnVg1lymBOCxlTGdy8Y3tpUvheBnNLyrCqukoucWSr-x9cvJr6IRafUJIliNGyvNx0yIwcS5HG9jrIsb5wZaSuuOcOSslP7LH56wdz5MlgRnIULsOhbcvCfco8YLYcFY/s400/DSC02260.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603344608360693234" border="0" /></a>PS- My mother in law took this picture of us racing to find our eggs during the Annual Grown Ups Easter Egg Hunt. I would have plowed down my husband to grab an egg from his hand if other family members hadn't been there watching.<br /><br /></div><br />Just a brilliant post to say I appreciate my spouse and am grateful for him. He is quite possibly THE most generous and forgiving person I know and I aspire to be more like him. <span style="font-style: italic;">Without the chest hair and DEEP voice.</span> He and I do use the same: hair gel, deodorant, toothpaste, and even MAKEUP!!! (not) TOOTHBURSH!!! (not) so we're already on the road to becoming the same person. Sure, it's pretty now but dang it was a mess. Then I think: Oh yeah, that fireplace! THAT'S what made us (really me) want this house so much!<br />Wow, I love my big stone fireplace:) Maybe as much as my baby? Hmmmm. We'll do that when it is warmer. Until then, my dad pulled out the broken layer of glass so it doesn't look jagged and I blow dried that plastic wrap stuff over the remaining window pane to keep the cold air out. So now we have one normal window and one single pane window and that works for now! Don't tell the robbers about this window though.... We haven't really done much to this room other than: paint walls and trim, install all new (to us) appliances, take out another funky bookshelf, and CLEAN. This room was the most disgusting and filthy by far. Well, except for maybe the basement. Well, maybe not...<div>
<br /></div><div>We had a whole slew of people here helping us scrub the cabinets, trim, walls, and every nook and cranny. It was so grimy and caked in yuck. Yuck. Just that: YUCK.

Yeah, that's a light fixture. Another delightful wood and glass creation that we were loathe to part with. Hehe.
<br />
<br />I actually took this picture when I brought lunch to the workers (J, J's parents, my dad, and a friend) who were ripping the basement bare in our "It's been ours for 1 day!!" unheated house. We didn't want to turn on the furnace until the basement (where the furnace resides) had been cleaned of mold and the furnace and ductwork had all been cleaned. Brrrr.
<br />
<br />It was wonderful when my <a href="http://micahandchristine.us/">SIL Christine and brother Micah</a> brought us warm meals during a long day of working in the chilly gross house. We felt kinda bad though when people who were helping us would bring their kids to our 60 degree house. And move in day? Everyone sat around and ate lunch with coats on. Oh well....
<br />
<br />Most of this cold was caused by an unknown short in the thermostat that prevented the furnace from running as long as it needed to after we actually turned it on. So yeah, we were freezing for over a month. We finally figured the situation out after we had moved in and had been living in the house for a couple of days. SOOOOO much easier to replace a thermostat than a furnace!!

So I found a good deal on a bulk supply of bronze pulls, ordered, and replaced them! J did the measuring and hole drilling since half the cabinets didn't have existing hardware. Icky light fixtures on the floor to the left:) Brown trim everywhere. Paint samples drying on the walls. Blinds removed from all windows and dumped in a bucket to be washed eventually. Snow outside. This was one of the most stressful periods in my life: living with family, caring for a tiny baby who I dragged with me to this chilly house 6 days a week, wearing the same gross clothes every day (I washed them each night!), and running to the hardware store every other day! We had so many people helping us that it was finished in 1 month!</div><div><br /></div><div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi58KZUVqW05mPYoariWAxgDN8cxPrCYzytH-F2BzVqKVDXv9EaqXBtJ-YnSDc-czoM5IjTt9K5-D14aoji8lhZnB-zlaUDaA7Ti8LjeZFhyphenhyphenYGpUlfXXg79YxcXsrMb2Yky1QTX8Dq6A4Y/s1600/IMG_2359.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi58KZUVqW05mPYoariWAxgDN8cxPrCYzytH-F2BzVqKVDXv9EaqXBtJ-YnSDc-czoM5IjTt9K5-D14aoji8lhZnB-zlaUDaA7Ti8LjeZFhyphenhyphenYGpUlfXXg79YxcXsrMb2Yky1QTX8Dq6A4Y/s400/IMG_2359.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5601883617424733362" /></a>Walls painted!! Trim not touched! Took this photo with my brother's awesome fisheye lens (wantwantwant one!!). The icky fan used to be where that light is. As a side not, that light is somehow hooked to a timer so when it has been on for 10-15 minutes, it automatically turns off. Nice. Why couldn't it have been dark chocolate???? So now I just want to eat the thing (though if it had been a dark chocolate color, I'd be gnawing on it as we speak). I'm going to take the paint back to get it darkened and try it one more time (and then I'll give up and paint it back white). If you have a good imagination and some time, go <a href="http://www.easy-house-painting-tips.com/painting-trim.html">here</a>, scroll down to the Paneled Doors section, look at the first door and imagine the light yellow is white and the white is dark brown.
